I won a hotel package to the CasaBlanca in Mesquite, NV. A two night stay at the hotel, $70 spa treatment, and $100 at their nice restaurant. I won it by signing up for their email offers. Jacob and I had been thinking about going there and I was looking for good deals! Well I got one!
We left on our anniversary, Feb 16, and spent the day with our friend, Lem Harsh, and his wife in Cedar City. He and Jacob get along so well. We stayed up late that night playing along with games on the game show network. It was a riot listening to them. The next day we headed to St George and went to lunch with Katie Dueck and surprised her with our new baby news! It was hilarious to see her face, because she certainly wasn’t expecting that!
When we got to Mesquite we checked in to our hotel on the 8th floor. I was grateful that Jacob asked for a room as high up as possible. It got us away from the extremely smoky lobby/casino. It was awful to walk through. Thankfully the weather was gorgeous and I was able to spend a lot of time outside. The first night we went to walmart and bought a couple different bottles of juices. They were delicious!
We had planned to use our $70 towards a $35 half hour massage for each of, but then found out that it had to be used all on one treatment. I decided to send Jacob to use the spa and mineral pools and get an hour long massage because he has been having back problems, I can’t go in a hot tub since I am pregnant, I would enjoy a walk, and I didn’t think Zina would be very happy being away from me for that long. Yes, we took Zina with us and she was having a rather fussy, needy week! She has several teeth coming in on the top.
I did really enjoy my walk even though I spent half of it holding Zina while pushing the stroller, but the weather made it worth it. We stopped at a fountain out front and watched the ducks swimming. Several came right up on shore and waddled towards us. I looked in my bag for something I could throw to them and all I came up with was a little bag of jelly bellys. I tossed one right in front of the stroller and the ducks came right up by Zina’s toes pecking at it. She was so fascinated! I did find out that ducks can’t eat jelly beans. They pick them up in their beaks and try to swallow and always drop them again. Oh well I just wanted the ducks to come closer to Zina and it worked. Jacob ended up at the spa for 3 hours. He said he liked the hot tubs and sauna more than the massage. I am glad that he enjoyed it!
That evening we went to the restaurant and prayed that Zina would cooperate. She didn’t. By the time we had received our appetizers and ordered our entrees I had already been out in the hall with her several times. It was very stressful! We asked our waiter if he could just put all our stuff in a box so we could eat in our room. We managed to spend $95.72 of our $100 gift certificate and we had food for a couple of days! We got two appetizers, 2 entrees, 4 sides, and 3 desserts. The funny thing is that we went to a fancy restaurant and ordered linguine alfredo with chicken. The easiest thing to make! Almost everything else on the entire menu was seafood of some sort and I am not a fan. Eating in our hotel room was so much more enjoyable! Even though (or maybe especially since) we forgot to get any utensils to eat with.
At night we tried really hard to make sure Zina was quiet so we didn’t wake up anyone in the rooms next to us. We were doing a great job of it and then the last morning we were there at 7am the guy in the room next to us starting talking on his phone at the top of his voice! He wasn’t yelling, he was just one of those people that have no concept of volume control. I lay there thinking, “If Zina wakes up I am going to just let her holler! Maybe then he will realize that these walls are thin!” Of course Zina woke up just after he finished. Thankfully she was happy.
We stayed at Lem’s house again on the way home and played cranium. I think staying at Lem’s house was my favorite part of our vacation! It is nice to be home again and getting settle back into a good schedule.
